Top 4 Auto Insurance Points When Filing Claim

  1. Know Your Auto Insurance Policy:  Read & understand your policy.   If you should need to file a claim, understanding your policy & what to do after an accident will make this process much easier.  Contact your insurance agent if you have questions about your policy & click on our “Accident” page which provides what to do after an accident.

  1. Deductibles:  We’ve had many questions over the years about how insurance deductibles work.   An insurance deductible is the amount you agree to pay for a repair before the insurance company pays anything toward your insurance claim. The deductible amount is agreed upon when you purchase your auto insurance.  For example, if your auto insurance deductible is $500 & the collision repair from an auto accident is $5,000, you're responsible for paying the first $500. The auto insurance company pays the remaining $4,500.

  1. Rental Car Coverage: If you believe you may need a rental car in the event of an auto accident while having your vehicle repaired, make sure you’ve added this option to your current auto insurance policy.   This coverage can be added to your policy at an affordable additional premium.   Daily rental car coverage can start around $20/per day or higher, based on your needs.   Ask your local agent for more details.

  1. OEM Parts vs Aftermarket Parts:  Understand your current auto insurance policy when it comes to using OEM parts vs aftermarket parts.    Additional coverage can be added to your current auto insurance policy stating you’ve chosen to only use OEM parts on your vehicle during a repair.   Check with your local agent for more details

What does OEM parts mean? Original Equipment Manufacturer parts are made from the original auto maker of your vehicle instead of an aftermarket or salvage company.

What does Aftermarket Parts mean? Parts made by a company other than the original manufacturer.

Additional coverage can be added to your current auto insurance policy stating you’ve chosen to only use OEM parts on your vehicle during a repair.   Check with your local agent for more details.
